Look What A Pinch Of Turmeric Everyday Can Do For The Brain And Memory




Despite being an essential ingredient in many traditional Asian dishes, turmeric has been valued as a natural remedy for thousands of years.

Most of its healing qualities are due to the presence of curcuminoids, and curcumin being the most potent of them. Turmeric is a rich source of antioxidants, and it actually offers a plethora of health benefits.

  • 1.4 grams fiber
  • 0.5 milligram manganese (26 percent DV)
  • 2.8 milligrams iron (16 percent DV)
  • 0.1 milligram vitamin B6 (6 percent DV)
  • 170 milligrams potassium (5 percent DV)
  • 1.7 milligrams vitamin C (3 percent DV)
  • 13 milligrams magnesium (3 percent DV)”

Researchers have confirmed that it has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, prevents free radical damage, purifies the blood, detoxifies the liver, and prevents premature aging.

A study which analyzed people older than  60, diagnosed with pre-diabetes, and received a gram of turmeric with their breakfast, found that it boosted their memory.  According to one of the researchers,

“We discovered that this small addition to their breakfast actually improved their working memory during 6 hours”.

Another 2009 study conducted by the researchers from Duke University found that curcumin can cause changes in the brain and can counteract certain effects of Alzheimer’s. Namely, it actually targets one of the main reasons for brain damage, the amyloid plaques.

Researchers from the University of Tsukuba in Japan conducted a study in 2013 which showed that curcumin can improve cardiovascular health, just as an aerobic exercise would do.

They found that curcumin and turmeric can also reduce body fat, promote heart health, prevent cancer, and treat arthritis.

To reap the benefits of this miraculous spice, you can add it to meals, desserts, sauces, take it in the form of supplements, make turmeric tea or latte, or try some other delicious turmeric recipe.
